Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Welcomes You!
Parent Teacher Association is a community of parents and teachers supporting events that benefit Oakton School children, parents and teachers. The PTA budget makes possible field trips, clubs, activities, athletics, classroom projects and equipment. PTA volunteers run the Artist in Residence program, story store, chess club, and many other cultural and community-building events. The PTA improves communications among parents by
publishing a calendar, school directory and the Cougar Times newsletter. The Oakton PTA Yahoo! Group ([ http://gros.yahoo.com/group/OaktonPTA) provides a discussion board for all issues of interest to Oakton parents and teachers. The PTA launched the Academic Support for Caregivers program that provides reading games, tutoring in math, internet literacy, and assistance for parents and other
caregivers who work with students on homework and reading. This program is implemented through an Action Team for School, Family and Community Partnerships based on the John Hopkins NNPS School Model currently recommended by the District 65 Strategic Plan.
The Oakton PTA provides a voice for Oakton parents with school and district administrators. Over the summer, the PTA has worked with the district to complete much-needed work to improve the school building and grounds.
PTA Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month in the school auditorium. Membership in the PTA is a great way to get involved with the school, while getting to know Oakton families, teachers and staff. Please support Oakton by joining the PTA! Membership is open to all Oakton Parents and teachers. It costs only $5.00 per year for individuals and $10.00 per year for couples. PTA Forums are held three times a year in the Oakton auditorium. Complimentary Child Care is available from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Meetings are open to everyone, but only members may vote. The PTA represents all Oakton parents and provides services that benefit all Oakton children. We are united in our support for the school. Our School Website is a valuable resource for parents, students, and others in our school community. Additionally, the school PTA designed a web site for parents to learn more about the PTA, its activities and the supports and resources it provides for our school.
Go to this web address http://oaktonschoolpta.org/ to visit the school PTA web site. This PTA website was designed by the PTA, independent of the school site. The district and our school are not responsibile for the content on the PTA site. Questions about the content should be directed to the School PTA.
If you have any questions, issues or concerns, please contact us. We are your PTA!
